Library!

We enjoyed our first afternoon in the library for Term 4 yesterday.

The kids welcomed our new librarian Ms Tamatea and were very polite asking for books.

We go to the library every Wednesday afternoon and the children can choose two books to take home.  You can keep these books at home and return them each Wednesday or you can keep them in our class library corner.

Rugby skills

All the students at St Mary's were lucky to get some free rugby skill sessions towards the end of the term.

Lots of the students knew about rugby and the All Blacks so we're excited to get out and try. A few students weren't sure and were a bit hesitant.

After a few drills and games it was hard to get everyone back to class! They had a blast learning passing, catching and running with a rugby ball. There was a lot of multitasking involved in these drills. The students had to walk in a line, pass backwards to the person next to them and call out their name so they were ready for the ball.

Great fun and learning had by all the students in Room 9 :)

Cricket skills

Our school has been lucky over the last few weeks we have had Mr MacDonald come in and teach some cricket skills.

He has been working with the children in Room 9 to help improve their catching skills. He has also been teaching them the basics of cricket of hitting the ball and running to gain points and fielding.

It has been lots of fun and the children have enjoyed getting outside in the mornings  :)

New P.E equipment

We were all very excited to try out the new bouncy balls the school has purchased.  The kids took time exploring different things they could do with the balls.  I gave them different instructions at different times to build up their skills of bouncing and walking with the ball.

First off was just dropping then catching the ball, then they tried to do this while walking. The next step was to hit the ball down and catch up, they then tried to do that while walking. Some children managed to get these skills and were able to bounce the ball up and down while walking without stopping the ball by catching it!

The wind was a bit chilly but they all enjoying getting out and moving this afternoon :)

Thanks Rosa!

We have been learning about prayer.  We have talked about the prayers we know, where we can pray and who we can pray for.

Now we are looking at those special people who listened to God's love and spread his word.

We started by learning about St. Vincent, the saint of yellow house at St. Mary's School. Rosa helped me finish colouring in my St. Vincent as she already finished her smaller version for her R.E book.

Thanks again Rosa :)
